Bridging the gap between crafts and industrial production
Stefan Heiliger
The career of Stefan Heiliger, who was born in Berlin in 1941, is equally consistent: he studied design at the Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart; worked as a designer for Mercedes Benz from 1964-77; presented his first own furniture designs in 1966; and is now a professor at Offenbach University, where he teaches vehicle and furniture design.
In 1978, Stefan Heiliger opened up his own design studio for functional furniture in Frankfurt.
The large number of awards his designs have received vindicate his innovative ideas. Motivated by this acclaim, Stefan Heiliger started working on his own furniture collection at the turn of the century.
The objects included in the Heiliger Collection represent experience and emotion. The person behind it is Stefan Heiliger with his knowledge gained from over 30 years working for renowned and great manufacturers from the car and furniture industry. But the collection is also backed up by his passion to always rediscover seating furniture, to reflect and newly interpret ways of living around the subject or seating. The seating furniture has identity and soul. They are not just inanimate objects, not run-of-the-mill and not adapted to suit the tastes of the masses. The design is sculptural and emotional, not strict nor architectonic. For what would our lives be without beauty and poetry? The furniture is elegant and light, twinned with an extraordinary degree of comfort and functionally-clever ideas. Yet, the objects are always serviceable and appeal equally to both sensuality and reason.
